Transience Mirrors reveal the oxidation process
The Cubic Transience Mirrors reveal the beauty of oxidized silver layers with colour tones that range from silver, gold to brown and purple to blue. These patterns of oxidized surfaces create an optic illusion of a three dimensional design. The Cubic Transience Mirrors were released in July 2016.
Over time dark spots start to appear on mirrors. The silver layer is slowly oxidizing under the influence of oxygen and water, thereby showing some of its history. This process can be regarded as degradation.
The Transience Mirrors series, designed by Lex Pott and David Derksen, reveal different states of oxidation through an accelerated process. All mirrors are handmade and the oxidation patterns look slightly different on each piece. This roughness in oxidation and the clean geometrical aesthetics make each piece truly unique and beautiful.
